If you're totally new to the sport, we would be delighted to have you join us. We're a family-friendly club, and whilst we do enjoy a bit of friendly competition, what really motivates us is bringing newcomers into our sport. Orienteering is a small community, growing all the time – and those that get into it display a tendency to get hooked for life!

Why choose orienteering?

Orienteering is an all-round sport – it’s great for the body, mind and some of the scenery is good for the soul too. You don’t need to be fit to take part – but it’s so addictive that you’ll probably get hooked, and get fitter.

Orienteering is an excellent family activity as there are courses to suit all abilities – from White (easy) courses for the little ones and beginners, right up to the highest technical difficulty courses of Blue and Brown (technically and physically more challenging). It’s not always the fastest runner who gets the best time – you need to be running in the correct direction in orienteering to be accomplished.

Age categories range from 10 to 85, so it really is an activity for all. It’s also a very sociable sport as there is always someone to discuss your course with afterwards – you will often hear participants asking each other “what route did you take to that control?”. Post-event discussions are a great way of learning different aspects of orienteering.

How to join?

There are 2 options - Scottish Orienteering Association (SOA) Membership or British Orienteering Membership

Scottish Orienteering Association (SOA) – gives you membership of INVOC and SOA, and it would be suited to people who want to participate in orienteering primarily in their local area of Scotland. Join at SiEntries. You’ll need to Register or Log In with SiEntries first. Don’t forget to pick INVOC as your club.

British Orienteering – gives you membership of INVOC, SOA and British Orienteering, and is for those who want to compete at championship events across Scotland and the UK, or those who wish to hold Event Official positions. Benefits include: eligibility to compete in a variety of national competitions; Public Liability Insurance when participating in events and activities registered with British Orienteering and access to the members' section of the website. It is quick and easy to sign up on the British Orienteering website, it just takes a few simple steps to complete the process.

The membership year runs from 1st January to 31st December. If you join between the 1st November 2109 and 31st October 2020 your membership will be valid until 31st December 2020.

Senior – any member aged 21 or older at the end of the membership year.

Junior – any member aged 20 or younger at the end of the membership year.

Families: British Orienteering offer Family Memberships. If there are a few members of the same family looking to join/renew then check out the Family Memberships as they might be cheaper, but it depends on the makeup of your family.
